hi there!

My name is Angelia. I am a student midwife, currently studying in the Twin Cities. I would love to invite you to join me on my journey of stepping into my deepest calling.

This page is dedicated to my student journey. I am so excited to share what this path entails as I study the art of midwifery. Here I will share tellings, progress, and fun details as I slowly transform into the midwife I am meant to be.

answering the call

Nurturing and supporting women during the transformation into motherhood is my greatest passion. For the past seven years I have had the honor of serving my community in Lexington, Kentucky as a doula, walking with women as a sister through their sacred journey. In April 2022 I answered my call into midwifery by enrolling into the Indie Birth Midwifery School and entering my first apprenticeship attending births in the role of a student midwife.

This path has become so much more than gaining skills and knowledge. It has been a deeply transformative experience as I have spent this time holding space, supporting normal birth and physiologic postpartum experiences, exploring cultural traditions around the world, bringing women to the center of their care, and witnessing the beauty of radical birth.

After completing my schooling, successfully graduating IBMS, I found myself ready to dive back into hands on learning. With my heart grounded in serving families abroad in missionary midwifery, I found myself accepting an apprenticeship in Chaska, Minnesota with NewBirth Midwifery. A Christ centered midwifery practice with a heart for those interested in missions. I quickly enrolled into NewLife Midwifery School in which I hope to graduate with an Associates in Midwifery. In March 2025 I packed up my entire life (dog and cat too), moved to Minnesota, and began this new adventure.

This past four months of working with the midwives and students here has been nothing short of a blessing. I have so far attended eight births, completed a handful of newborn exams and my weeks are filled with clinical experiences.

what's next

What is next for me once I complete my apprenticeship here in Minnesota?

Ultimately I plan to serve as a midwife at a birth center in the Philippines for a handful of months. There is a deep need for maternity care in Southeast Asia and I have felt called to join the women caring for the communities there. One of my current preceptors here in Minnesota begin this maternity center and this dream is what led me to finishing my studies up North. With this opportunity to serve abroad I would set the foundation of my years being with women in birth as a humble servant. I would hope this will open up more doors to witness women around the world to broaden my abilities in this work.

When I do grow roots and start my practice it will remain Bending Willow Birth. The doula heart that started this birth brand will still carry the meaning of it all. I hope to have my dear friend and doula sister Kendra Johnson join me as a Midwife team when she fully steps into this role as well. Together we hope to grow and tend to the women in our community through a faith based practice.

How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it's here a little while, then it's gone. What you ought to say is "If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that."
